Creating Communities & Transforming Lives
Help us continue to make real, sustainable change in the lives of hundreds of individuals and families.
A MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Danielle Minelli Pagnotta
At Providence House, we are part of a broader ecosystem of organizations committed to supporting women and families navigating homelessness or justice involvement. Many partners in this work place social justice at the heart of their mission—rightfully so. What sets Providence House apart, however, is not only what we do, but how we do it. And today, I want to highlight something exceptional happening within our programs team that deserves both recognition and gratitude.
Under the leadership of Rita Taddonio, our programs department has been delivering high-impact workshops designed with intention, creativity, and the lived experiences of our residents in mind. From our Food for Thought series to our recent Executive Function Workshop (featured below in this issue), the team has consistently produced thoughtful experiences that help residents build confidence, strengthen life skills, and deepen their sense of community.
What stands out most is not simply the content of these workshops, but the commitment behind them. The care, preparation, and strategic coordination that the team invests—and the way our residents continue to show up, engage, and grow—reflect the strength of this organization. It is a clear demonstration of the culture we are building: one where empowerment is intentional, and where every interaction is an opportunity to help someone step forward with dignity.
This is the quiet but powerful work that defines Providence House. It is the reason our supportive and permanent housing model continues to be a blueprint for what’s possible when service, compassion, and professional excellence intersect.
To our programs team: thank you for leading with purpose, and for reminding all of us why this mission matters.
With appreciation,
Providence House serves and advocates for women and families at risk of harm, who have histories of homelessness or justice-involvement, and provides a safe community where their dignity is recognized, strengths are enhanced and a transition to stability is achieved.
OUR MISSION
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
TRANSITIONAL SHELTER PROGRAM
Our Transitional Shelter Program provides emergency housing, engaging residents for six to eight months. During this time, our team works closely with each person to address issues such as accessing a primary care physician, securing a stable source of income, and obtaining appropriate childcare as well as linking them to permanent housing.
WOMEN’S JUSTICE PROGRAM
Our Women’s Justice Program serves women experiencing homelessness who would otherwise be held at Rikers Island while awaiting trial. We provide staff onsite 24 hours a day, ensuring access to substance use or mental health treatment, life skills training including financial literacy and budgeting, and any parole, probation, or court-mandated services.
PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING
Our Permanent Supportive Housing is designed for families and single adults who have histories of chronic homelessness, serious mental illness (SMI), and/or Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Through our case management and clinical services, we assist residents in developing self-sufficiency skills while providing them with tools and training to become independent.
something great
is coming soon
Providence House is thrilled to announce a bold new chapter for the Women’s Justice Program. After a 4-year strategic planning process, we are bringing to life the first-ever purpose-built site specifically designed for women exiting the incarceration system.
This transformational project tackles the urgent link between homelessness and incarceration, creating a place where women returning from Rikers Island and beyond can heal, rebuild, and thrive with dignity and hope.
