Providence House Mother's Day 5K: Moving for Moms, Health, and Hope
On a sunny Saturday, May 3rd, Providence House staff, families, friends, and supporters laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement for our Mother’s Day 5K, a spirited run through the heart of Bed-Stuy. The race wasn’t just about mileage—it was a celebration of motherhood and the incredible strength of the women we serve across our programs.
Our 5K route took participants on a meaningful journey to four of our permanent supportive housing sites in Brooklyn, symbolizing the progression, resilience, and everyday dedication it takes to support the women and families of Providence House. Each stop along the way was a reminder of the transformative work happening inside these homes—where safety, healing, and new beginnings unfold every day.
The day kicked off with welcoming remarks from Executive Director Danielle Minelli Pagnotta, who set the tone with gratitude and excitement. Our crew gathered in shirts designed by Board Member Katie Colleary, fueling up on pre-race carbs and helping our grill master fire up the station for post-run treats. The energy was joyful and community-rich, with Board members' families cheering, kids playing, and supporters soaking up the early summer sun.
For many of our staff and supporters was a real physical challenge, a chance to push themselves, reconnect with their bodies, and embrace the health benefits of movement. The route encouraged everyone, regardless of pace, to set a personal goal and feel the reward of achieving it together. From improved cardiovascular health to a boost in mental wellness, the run served as a powerful reminder that taking care of ourselves is an essential part of taking care of others. The camaraderie and shared momentum made it not just a race, but a wellness experience we’ll carry forward.
We also took a moment to celebrate three of our race-day runners—Providence House champions who are taking their commitment even further. Board Member Katie Colleary, longtime supporter Lisa McKiernan, and dedicated friend Chris Newcomb will all be running in the upcoming New York City Marathon to raise funds that will help Providence House grow and deepen our impact. Their support reflects the heart and hustle that fuel our mission—and we’re cheering them on every step of the way!

To cap off the day, an ice cream truck rolled in to cool down our hard-working runners and guests, wrapping up the afternoon with well-earned treats. It was a sweet end to a hot, inspiring day—and just a taste of what’s to come.
