2025
IMPACT REPORT
This year marked meaningful progress and renewed momentum for Providence House. With the support of our colleagues, partners, and donors, we moved forward with resilience and purpose, even amid shifting policies and complex challenges. Together, we proved that the future ahead is brighter than any obstacle we face.
A major milestone of 2025 was the approval of our Lexington Development Project—our first purpose-built site for women exiting incarceration. This new campus will provide transitional housing and wraparound services to more than 160 women and gender non-conforming individuals annually, reflecting our core belief that every woman deserves the chance to rebuild and thrive. As we expand housing and strengthen person-centered programs, we continue to show that change is possible and hope is powerful. With 2026 on the horizon, we move forward with confidence: the best is still ahead.
Program Highlights
Across all programs, Providence House supported 719 people—386 of them children—providing safety, stability, and compassionate care to families journeying toward independence.
No residents who left our transitional family shelter for permanent housing in 2024 returned to homelessness, and in our Women’s Justice Program 96% of graduates remained safely in the community without rearrest.
Every resident in our permanent supportive housing received essential mental health care when they needed it. The long-term stability encouraged at the program’s four apartment buildings meant only six exits—five of them proudly moving on to independent living.
OUR PROGRAMS
EAST NEW YORK
FAMILY TRANSITIONAL SHELTER
Exceeding Rehousing Goals
This year, our residence surpassed its annual NYC placement target by 70%. This translated into 68 families moving into permanent housing - further reflecting our unwavering commitment to housing stability and transformative support.
Workforce Development Success
Our Family Transitional program invested in employment readiness by funding certification training for four clients. All four secured jobs in their respective certification fields, demonstrating strong program impact, client empowerment, and long-term economic mobility.
Family Reunification Support
Our holistic approach extends beyond housing. We supported the safe reunification of one family with relatives in Michigan. Their heartfelt gratitude and multiple expressions of appreciation reaffirm the program’s commitment to dignity, connection, and compassionate care.
NEW ROCHELLE
FAMILY TRANSITIONAL SHELTER
Cultivating Community Through Shared Meals
Monthly “Food is Community” family dinners are fostering deep connection, mutual support, and a sense of belonging. These gatherings have become a meaningful tradition that strengthens relationships and community identity.
Sustained Engagement from Alumni Families
By inviting families who have successfully transitioned out to return and share their Mexperiences, the program gives current residents practical insight and encouragement. These exchanges provide real-world perspectives on both challenges and successes after exiting shelter.
Celebrating Childhood & Joy
With support from our board and community partners, our BBQs and birthday and holiday celebrations bring joy, inclusion, and a sense of normalcy to children living in the residence, reinforcing the importance of dignity, celebration, and childhood memories.
PERMANENT
SUPPORTIVE HOUSING
Mental Health Advocacy & Stabilization
After four psychiatric hospitalizations since December 2024, Tenant D.W. received intensive advocacy from our interdisciplinary team, resulting in approval for ACT/AOT services. Since returning, the tenant has remained stable, medication compliant, and significantly improved in quality of life—demonstrating the power of persistent advocacy and coordinated care.
Increased Client Engagement Through Holistic Programming
Our expanded group offerings—including mental health education, coping skills, horticultural therapy, and cultural/recreational outings—have led to a steady increase in client participation. Residents are engaging more deeply in their wellness, creativity, and community-building.
Reducing Financial Barriers and Empowering Tenants
Through case management support and financial literacy education, tenants successfully accessed benefits and resources to resolve their rental arrears. Clients report feeling empowered, accomplished, and more confident in managing their finances and housing stability.
WOMENS
JUSTICE PROGRAM
Successful Reintegration into Community
This year, WJP supported 68% of residents in securing permanent housing, offering stability, dignity, and a solid foundation for reentry. Others moved on to family support or treatment programs to address addiction or mental health challenges. By tackling the barriers justice-impacted women face after release, WJP transforms reentry into meaningful reintegration, fostering independence and long-term wellbeing.
Expanding Enrichment Programming & Community Engagement
WJP expanded both on-site programming and off-site enrichment to support well-being, community connection, and personal growth. Residents enjoyed educational and recreational outings—from American Dream and the Botanical Garden to a Broadway show—creating joyful, memorable experiences.
On-site, we introduced new skill-building and wellness workshops, including Food is Power (healthy, budget-friendly cooking), Clay Art Therapy and Jewelry Making (creativity and mindfulness), and Self-Defense (confidence and safety awareness). These holistic programs strengthen life skills, emotional resilience, and community integration.
LOOKING AHEAD
Providence House’s Lex 27 initiative marks a bold new chapter for our Women’s Justice Program, creating the first purpose-built residence for women and gender-expansive individuals returning from incarceration. After four years of planning, this five-story site will offer 85 private rooms, shared kitchens, and community spaces, serving more than 160 residents each year with 24/7 trauma-responsive support—from mental health and substance use treatment to life-skills coaching, financial management, and reentry assistance. Building on our 96% non-recidivism rate, Lex 27 will deepen our impact and help more women rebuild with dignity, stability, and meaningful community connection.
OUR BOARD
In 2025, our Providence House Board made remarkable strides in service to both residents and the broader community. Board members invited colleagues to volunteer on-site, inspiring engagement from those new to our work, including employees from Wells Fargo and UBS.
They also championed fundraising through the New York City Marathon, raising awareness and support for our programs, and coordinated the Bedford Prison Care Package initiative, assembling 100 care packages for justice-impacted women.
The Board further fostered community dialogue by hosting roundtables on civic issues, including the mayoral race and Brooklyn-specific challenges, bringing together staff, advocates, and community members.
Through these efforts, our board has exemplified how leadership, collaboration, and community engagement can drive meaningful change and support Providence House’s mission of empowerment and dignity.
