People of Hope 2008 Awards Dinner

On behalf of Providence House, I want to thank you again for your past support of our work with homeless and formerly incarcerated women and children. I am writing to tell you about our Seventh Annual People of Hope Celebration in anticipation that you might consider filling out the attached form and taking a journal ad or reserving tickets for this important fundraiser – set to take place on the evening of Wednesday, June 5, 2008 at The Water Club in New York City.

Our 2008 People of Hope Award honorees are Vincent and Susan Rohan. Mr. and Mrs. Rohan are respectively President and Vice –President of the May Ellen and Gerald Ritter Foundation. The Foundation has been a critical source of support to Providence House’s programs and services as well as many of other community organizations in the Greater New York City vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Rohan are dedicated to the betterment of the community and the lives of individuals and families. Mrs. Rohan also serves on the Providence House Board of Directors.

The Foundress Award will be presented to Philip Genty, J.D., who is Clinical Professor of Law at the Columbia University School of Law. Mr. Genty will be recognized for his pro bono work, investment of time and talent and advocacy on behalf of incarcerated women.

Providence House was founded nearly three decades ago by the Sisters of St. Joseph. The agency has grown to ten residences for women and children including a 15-apartment transitional housing program and three permanent housing programs. More than 11,000 women and children have been served since we first opened.

Private support is essential to fill in the substantial gaps for which our government funding makes no allowances, especially during this time of economic stress. Our unique approach to addressing the various hurdles of homelessness through one-on-one case management and communication facilitates the transition to successful independent living.

lease take the time now to complete and return the attached form with your ticket and journal ad reservations. A formal invitation will follow in late April. I t hank you again for your past support and look forward to seeing you later this spring

Sister Janet Kinney, CSJ
