The 2006 People of Hope Celebration, held at the Water Club in New York City on June 8th, honored eight Sisters of St. Joseph who helped found and have given 20+ years of service at Providence House. Providence House Foundress Sister Elaine Roulet, CSJ was awarded the People of Hope Award. Sister Marion DeFeis, CSJ, Sister Mary Doyle CSJ, Sister Mary Dunleavy, CSJ, Sister Joan Gallagher, CSJ, Sister Ave Regina Gould, CSJ, Sister Marie Lenihan, CSJ and Sister Theresa Scanlon, CSJ each received a Foundress Award. These dedicated and holy women have sacrificed of themselves to move forward the mission of Providence House to lift up homeless and formerly incarcerated women and their children out of despair and hopelessness. Their vision and their spirit permeate and sustain all that we do.
The annual People of Hope Celebration helps to raise funds in support of the vital programs and services of Providence House. This year's event was our most successful fundraiser to date. Moreover, it was a festive and celebratory evening, filled with stories and anecdotes, laughter and tears of joy. On behalf of the more than 11,000 women and children Providence House has served since 1979, please accept our most heartfelt gratitude to all who supported the 2006 People of Hope Celebration and whose presence made it a fantastic evening.
